Who Am I? ...Bobby Patel
Typical desi story, born in Brampton, parents have told me which path to go every year of my life.
Here's the checklist (see how many you get to see if you are a desi).
- First my parents said "Bobby Patel go to school"...did that (Mind you they made a fake birthday, so I was "older" so I could get in earlier).
- Then they said, "Bobby Patel get good grades" ... did that.
- Then they said, "Bobby Patel you're going to gifted grade school" ... did that.
- Then they said, "Bobby Patel get good grades" ... did that.
- Then they said, "Bobby Patel we said 'get good grades' not come home with 80%"... did that.
- Then they said, "Bobby Patel you're going to gifted high school" ... did that (mind you that was a ghetto school).
- Then they said, "Bobby Patel get good grades" ... did that.
- Then they said, "Bobby Patel we said 'get good grades' not come home with mid80%"... did that. (except English [75%], but they forgave me for that one!).
- Then they said, "Bobby Patel you're going to be an engineer, so go apply for engineering at the great univeristies" ... did that (But didn't get accepted).
- Then they said, "Bobby Patel you're going to be comp sci for your first year then re-apply as an engineer" ... did that (Still didn't get in).
- Then they said, "Bobby Patel you're going to do well in university, comp sci is ok (I guess), just finish it and do well" ... did that (with honours!).
- Then they said, "Bobby Patel get a job ... you're a fresh graduate with no experience competing in an oversaturated market " ...working on that.
- Then they said, "Bobby Patel it's been 6 months, how come IBM or Microsoft hasn't called you yet? Send another resume." ...did that.
- Then they said, "Bobby Patel get a job." ...did that (freelance work).
- Then they said, "Bobby Patel get a real job." ...did that (after doing freelance work for a year).
- Then they said, "WOW Bobby Patel you have a nice job." ...OMG! Are they content with my current situation!?!?!
Nope.
- Then they said " ..........

Bobby Patel you're 25, now get married." ....didn't do that :)
